Julia Younis, B.Sc.

I joined the Wythe Lab in the summer of 2022 soon after receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology from Houston Baptist University. Early in my time as an undergraduate, I was presented the opportunity to study fungal endophytes and their key role in plant immunity under the wing of Dr. Agnieszka Czopik. This first exposure to the inquisitive world of research fueled my love of science both in and outside the classroom, which continued to grow during my time at HBU.

In addition to my science-heavy degree, I was a scholar in HBU’s Honor’s College, an intensive English and Philosophy-based program that trained me to ask relevant yet unanswered questions over the difficult texts I engaged with. Having this curriculum side-by-side with my degree-related courses propelled my curiosity to approach scientific questions from new angles, while teaching me the perseverance to see them through.

I am interested in both neuroscience and cardiovascular research, with a focus on understanding the molecular genetics behind diseases and imaging the phenotypes that ensue. I am excited to continue learning and gain valuable research experience at the Wythe Lab, where I will be working on brain AVMs and CADASIL syndrome.
